The supply of clean safe water globally continues to be an issue, not just in third world countries but in westernised ones too.

One of the solutions could be point of use water treatment – adaptable, low-cost, simple to use, and sustainable.

So, what is point-of-use water treatment and how does it work?

A point-of-use water treatment system does exactly what it says – it treats water at the point that it comes out of a tap, or machine, or at the very point it is going to be used, rather than the current system of treating vast quantities of water centrally and distributing for any use.

Aqua21’s point of use water treatment uses patented miniaturized ozonation technology to clean water, and sensors to test the water and assure safety and quality.

Ozonation is a natural and chemical free disinfectant, it is widely accepted as a safe and effective water treatment technology, killing all bacteria and pathogens faster and more effectively than Chlorine for example, with no chemical residue.

It has not yet been widely adopted outside of big industries due to it being expensive, power hungry and using big, bulky equipment. Aqua21’s patented breakthrough is miniaturized ozonation technology – with an engine that can fit in the palm of your hand. It’s also significantly cheaper and low in complexity with a long life – therefore making it a suitable option for poorer areas of the world where complicated and expensive equipment just wouldn’t be a viable solution.

It’s also scalable and adaptable to a range of scenarios, whether that is simple home use, water supplies in African villages, or for irrigation on farms. The ozone can also be measured with our real time sensors and adjusted to provide biocidal water for healthcare cleaning, or any situation that needs disinfectant.

Point of use water treatment is more sustainable and environmentally friendly for two main reasons:

  1. It wastes less water, power and money because you only treat the water you need. Treating all water to potable standard and then watering the garden with it is wasteful and unnecessary.
  2. Ozonation makes water safe without chemicals and it can also clean and disinfect without chemicals, and this is better for the environment.

The case is clear, the evidence exists and so too does the technology. Our system is tested and assured, and it is close to becoming manufacturing ready. So, when the head the UK’s water regulator Ofwat says water treatment needs to change and companies need to innovate, here we are with a solution.
